Your assignment is to write a research paper about a mathematician of your choice. When writing this you should including the following elements:

  • Biographical information about the mathematician
  • The field of mathematics he/she is known for working in. Include what this field means, who else works in this field, and with what other fields it intersects (if any.)
  • The mathematician’s major contribution to the field. Try to explain this using as little jargon as possible and lots of examples.
  • The implication of this major contribution on other fields and on society.

The following items will be due at various points during the project:

  • A brief proposal, identifying the mathematician and why you hope to write about him/her.
  • An outline of the topics that will be discussed in the paper. The list of topics above might serve as a guide in this step.
  • A rough draft, to be examined in class before the final review.
  • A final version of the paper.

The paper should fit the following guidelines;

  • 5+ pages, 10pt font
  • At least 5 references, none of them from wikipedia
